Turning ONE!

Lucas James,

It’s the eve of your 1st birthday and I just got done putting you to bed. I laid you down staring at this big boy as you grin back at me and can’t help but wonder where the time went. Once I got your brother in bed I had to go back and pick you up and actually rock you to sleep (not b/c you were crying but b/c I wanted too!). My arms already ache just thinking about the days you will be too big for my arms to hold. PLEASE don’t grow too fast.

 I can’t help but think back to exactly a year ago…Nana and Papa had just flown in to Boise anxious to meet you. I wasn’t feeling well and was very tired so I headed up for bed. You had other plans for me though. Daddy was starting to time my contractions and they were getting much stronger and closer together...things were moving fast! I never did fall asleep that night. Daddy was so excited to get us to the hospital. We could NOT wait any longer to find out what you were going to be! You finally made your grand entrance at 7:03 a.m. They announced “it’s a boy!” tears streamed down our faces and we were so overcome with joy as they placed you in our arms. 

Tears stream down my face as I write this. The joy, laughter, and completeness you have brought to our family are impossible to put into words. I kid you not, you have been the smiley-est baby in the universe. Just ask anyone who has met you. You started smiling at 3 weeks old and haven't stopped. We couldn’t feel more blessed to know you. Yes, we understand that you are on loan from up above. We have been entrusted with a huge gift from God…YOU. 

It makes me incredibly nervous that we might screw it up as parents. The older you get the more you will see how imperfect we are. We pray that He leads and guides you in all your ways. That you learn to find your hope is only in Christ. He will show you the way. He is all loving and His love will never fail you. Seek Him with all your heart, Luke. Happy 1^st Birthday, baby. Mommy and daddy are madly in love with you!!
